Life Transformation through Inspiration

The year 1978 was special not only because it was the year when the first test tube baby was born in London after several attempts by this method, nor was it because over in Guyana, the religious cult leader, Jim Jones convinced his over 900 followers to kill themselves by drinking Cyanide.

I dare say 1978 and in particular Wednesday, June 7, was special because I was one of 377,000 babies to have come into existence on that day according to information gleaned from the internet.

Since that time I have gone through much depression, hurt, pain, anger, bitterness and low self esteem; in fact it is safe to say they were my close allies. However, over the years I have learnt to put everything into perspective knowing that all things work together for good to those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose. I now know who I am and that my purpose is “Life Transformation through Inspiration”.

I strongly agree with the charismatic and dynamic preacher, Bishop TD Jakes in saying that everything happens when you find your purpose and nothing happens before you do.  I also endorse the sentiments of author and motivational speaker Myles Munroe in saying that “the greatest tragedy in life is not death but life without a purpose”. So now if you wake me up in the middle of the night and ask me for a word, that word most likely will be purpose.
Knowing my purpose has enabled me to develop my passion for entrepreneurship. The result is that I inspire those with self-doubt and strengthen those who already believe, to strive to achieve the best that they possibly can. As the owner of two vibrant brands located at Devon House, Patwa Apparel, a clothing line with emphasis on the Jamaican language and 10 Fyah Side, a line of sauces and condiments,  I desire to excel to the highest level of leadership, hence one of my reasons for being a member of Toastmasters International. This passion has also driven me to write my first book on the subject of entrepreneurship to be published later this year as well as host my first radio show on the same subject to be aired by April of this year and still another, Living on purpose, also to be aired soon.

In addition to my purpose and my drive for entrepreneurship, the best part of doing business is the opportunity it provides for travelling the world, a place I now call my back yard to do business and meet interesting people of various cultures. Over the years some of the countries I’ve travelled on business are China, France, England, Germany, Colombia, the US, and several islands within the region. Of all my travels I can truly say I have fallen in love with Colombia, maybe because the people are as passionate as I am, in fact Colombia is passion they say. Or maybe it is because I was so pleasantly surprised on my first trip. We hear of the negatives in the media all the time but having actually gone there I am in total agreement with their tag line, ‘the only risk is wanting to stay’. Or maybe and very importantly, it could be because of their level of organization when it comes on to doing business.

Whatever the reason, I am totally in love with the country such that I almost missed my flight back home from Colombia on my most recent trip because I was too comfortable in my hotel room to realize my flight was not at 12:15 PM but 9:35 AM.  But then again, given there is never a dull and boring moment with me when I travel, the possibility of ‘almost missing’ a flight could very well happen anywhere, it doesn’t necessarily prove an affinity to a particular country – case in point, a flight from Miami to Jamaica (which I will not go into here).
